Community Foundation Student Awards, Scholarships, and Bursaries Deadline: April 26, 2024
The Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington is accepting applications for Student Awards, Scholarships, and Bursaries. The deadline for students to apply is Friday, April 26, 2024, at 4:30pm. Applications and information are available online at www.cffla.ca.
“The Community Foundation will be disbursing more than $76,000 across twenty awards to high school students entering university, college, or trades school thanks to the generosity of local donors who have established funds to support educational endeavours,” according to Bob Baker, Executive Director. “As of this year, the Community Foundation will have awarded nearly $800,000 in awards to students residing in Lennox & Addington.”
Student Award descriptions and applications can be found on the Foundation’s website. This year, there will be four new awards established by two donors:
Napanee Rotary established the Rotary Club of Napanee Service Above Self Student Award, recognizing one graduating student from each Lennox & Addington high school who is attending post-secondary education. It supports a student who has demonstrated a dedication to serving their community by leading, or actively participating in initiatives which improve an aspect of their community in a meaningful way. The three successful students will be chosen by their high schools – Napanee District Secondary School, Ernestown Secondary School, and North Addington Education Centre, and will each receive $1000 in support for their post-secondary education.
The Mary Jo Field Indigenous Student Award, established by Newburgh resident David Field in remembrance of his wife Mary Jo, is designed to help an Indigenous student, who shares the Fields’ values of hard work and education, to take the next step to a post-secondary school education. The successful applicant will receive $2500 in support for their post-secondary education.

The Charlotte Uens Education Fund – This scholarship is made possible by the donation of Stuart Uens in remembrance of his mother, Charlotte, to help those students who share the Uens’ values of hard work and education by providing annual scholarships to graduates of Napanee District Secondary School. Successful applicants will receive up to $5000 in support for their post-secondary education in a university, college, or apprenticeship programs.
Camden East Women’s Institute Scholarship – This scholarship is for a Napanee District Secondary School student to attend a community college as follows: this student should be a resident of Camden East Ward #1 / Newburgh Ward #2 areas and awarded based upon criteria set out by the Camden East Women’s Institute. Candidates will be recommended by Napanee District Secondary School.
Goodyear Scholarship – The Goodyear Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating high school student from Lennox and Addington County, for the purpose of post secondary education and training in technical education.
Lloyd Seeley Family Scholarship – The Lloyd Seeley Family Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship for a Prince Edward Collegiate Institute secondary graduate to attend a university or college. This student must be a resident of Prince Edward County and awarded in accordance with the criteria and guidelines set out by the Seeley Family.
100th Anniversary Social Work Scholarship Fund – This fund annually provides a scholarship to a high school graduating student of Lennox and Addington County who has been accepted into a social work program (BSW or MSW) at a Canadian University.
Napanee Sports Association Award – Established by the Napanee Sports Association in memory of Richard Dickson and Terry Gray, this scholarship recognizes and rewards an individual’s dedication to sports and education by providing financial assistance to a graduating secondary school student who participated in a Town of Greater Napanee sports program over their high school career and has been accepted at a recognized education institution at a post-secondary level.
Stoney Steps Artfest Stone Mills Bursary – Established by Martha Embury, the Bursary recognizes and advances art education. This bursary will be awarded to a graduating high school student who is a resident of Stone Mills and who has been accepted into a post-secondary program in the arts, (art, fine arts, music, graphic design), and has been involved in leadership initiatives during their secondary years, with added emphasis on the arts.
Trustee Laurie French Youth Leadership – Established by Laurie French, the bursary is awarded to a graduating high school student who is a resident of Lennox and Addington County and has been accepted into any post-secondary program and has been involved in leadership initiatives during their secondary years geared towards positive change in their community. The student will have demonstrated qualities and actions towards making improvements on behalf of their peers, including those who do not often have a voice.
Werk Poole Student Bursary – A tribute to Werk Poole, a leader in the Napanee community for many years, this bursary is provided to a graduating secondary school student, resident of Lennox and Addington County, who has been accepted into a Leadership Training Program. The student will have demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in, the qualities inherent in leadership roles.
The Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington is a registered charity with a mission to provide a never-ending resource for charitable causes in L&A by building endowment funds that respond to the needs of our community today, tomorrow, and for future generations to come. Established in 1987, the Foundation solicits donations from individuals, businesses, and service organizations to fulfill our mission. Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed $1.6 million to charitable causes.
