Giving Tuesday: L&A Community Foundation Encourages Donations to Local Charities
The Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington is encouraging residents, organizations, and businesses to make a difference close to home by donating to local causes on Giving Tuesday on December 3rd.
“One in five Canadians are using the services of charities,” according to Bob Baker, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “Now, more that ever we hope that the L&A community can step up and do whatever they can to donate to a cause, any cause, that is important to them.”
The Community Foundation supports every type of charity in L&A. “With the donations people provide, we create endowments funds to support local charities,” said Baker. “In 2024, the Foundation distributed $187,000 through our more than 40 funds.”
Since 1987 the Foundation has granted more than $1.8 million. The charities supported include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Morningstar Mission, Hospice, and Sandy Pines, as well as support post-secondary scholarships and student awards for local students.
The Community Foundation has launched its own initiative during Giving Tuesday and the holiday season that encourages donations to any of its funds. “Through the Make a Difference Close to Home campaign we hope to raise $15,000 by December 31 in support of the Friends of the Foundation Fund. This fund supports our mission and allows us to deliver our support programs to charities in the county,” said Baker. All donations will be matched by an anonymous donor to a maximum of $5000.
Donations can be made at cffla.ca or by calling 613-354-7333.
